Great book. It’s depressing to know you went through all of the harassment. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.

I found this little gem of a book to be incredibly relatable and inspiring. The author offers the reader an intimate glimpse into the life of a woman working in a male dominated profession. She does a great job of explaining the problems, challenges, and obstacles she faced while working as a firefighter in a department ruled by men. She is brutally honest about her own strengths and struggles; and I found her journey to find equality sincere and truthful. At the core of this book is a message about trying to earn approval and acceptance; and in the process discovering your own inter voice. I loved the personal stories and found they offered insight for those of us who struggle with the need to perform in a certain way to gain approval. In addition, I think the quotes in the book really get to the heart of message in each chapter. I think maybe the reason this book resonated with me is because I realized I had experienced many of the same troubles in my professional career. This book is an excellent read and I would recommend it to anyone.

This is a well-written account of one woman’s battle against the unjust policies of the fire department that she worked for and the personal demons that she had to exorcise along the way. The insight that she shares, along with the struggles along her journey at the fire department, were invaluable. I also loved the way that she told her anecdotes about the various experiences that she had. In particular, I thought that she selected the perfect quotes for her chapters, too.
